Annamalai University is a state university in Annamalai Nagar, Tamil Nadu, India. Annamalai University located in town east of Chidambaram, the home of Lord Nataraja, the Cosmic Dancer. The spacious and beautiful campus departments of the terminal to the hostel students, playgrounds, staff residential quarters and other facilities located at Annamalainagar, University of village 2 km east of Chidambaram, the temple city of Tamil Nadu. The university offers some three hundred and eighty courses distance learning mode.

History
Annamalai University owes its existence, the love of humanity to the Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar. In 1920 he established the Sri Meenakshi Temple in Chidambaram College. In 1928, Annamalai University, Madras Act state (government), the Sri Meenakshi College passed into the core of this integrated, residential university. The chairman of the seminar, the university known as the founder of Annamalai Nagar. The founder was honored with the Government of the Pro-Chancellor of the university. He is the Pro-Chancellor in two decades. Past Founder Pro Chancellor was Padma Bhushan Dr. Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar, Kt, LL.D., D.Litt. from 1948-1984 diligently feeding the growth and development at the university and devoted his life to the aims of his noble father realized.

University Departments
Department of Humanities, the Department of Indian Languages, Science and Engineering, Department of Science, Department of Agriculture, Department of Fine Arts, Department of Medicine and the Department of Marine Sciences. University Faculty has forty eight departments over 3240 teaching staff. This is the record for most students studied by the postal service. Campus, including hostels, colleges and playgrounds, an area of about 1000 acres.

Services
Annamalai University plays an important role in the dissemination of knowledge in research into the surrounding countryside, and the public through the Center for Adult Education and the expansion of the Regional Centre Modernisation of Rice Mills and consultancy, the Centre for Development and rural and weaker sections of the Department of Community Health and Preventive Medicine, Rajah Muthiah Dental College, NSS, and in particular the management of distance education (DDE) and open university, attracts thousands of adult students across the country and abroad. It has opened in Canada, and Toronto in 2005 for teaching Visual arts. Other centers are in a foreign country, Al Mihad Institute, Dubai and Al Hilal Training Center, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates and the Al Noor Training Centre in Muscat, Oman.
